Volume 3 (2002) Number 1

This year the Hungarian Editorial Board has the pleasure to act as the editors of Volume 3 of JCEA. We hope to be able to continue in the same style and level as our two previous national editorial boards, in Zagreb and in Nitra, and maintain the quality and the wide scope of the journal. The efforts of our partner editors are clearly justified in the fact that the journal is becoming known for scientists in many countries, and we receive manuscripts from an ever widening professional community. The present issue contains ten papers from 6 countries, of which seven are in English, two in Slovakian and one in Hungarian. The multilingual characteristics of the journal are maintained by the inclusion of titles and abstracts in national languages even for the papers written in English. The topics of the papers cover a wide range including fruits and vegetables, arable crops, predators, microbial population in cows, milk quality, water management and weather anomalies. We see it as a sign of the need and willingness of the scientific community in the region to exchange ideas and research results, and to cooperate without prejudice or bias. A special pleasure is to enjoy such lively communication among people from so many countries of various languages and cultural backgrounds, and we hope the journal remains a lively forum for the scientists of the region and grows to facilitate this constructive cooperation.
