Volume 4 (2003) Number 1

This year the Romanian Board has the pleasure of editing Volume 4 of JCEA. We hope to be able to continue in the same style and level as our previous editors from Zagreb, Nitra and Keszthely and to maintain the quality and the wide scope of the journal. The editing efforts of the first three volumes have profiled the journal as a successful one, which is becoming well known to scientists from many countries and to a large professional community that is constantly visiting our site.
The present issue contains ten papers in English from 4 countries: Bulgaria, Hungary, Romania and Turkey. The multilingual characteristics of the journal are still maintained by the inclusion of titles and abstracts in each author’s native languages. The topics of the papers cover a wide range of area, including fruits and vegetables, arable crops, predators, microbial population in cows, milk quality, water management, and weather anomalies. We see it as a sign from the scientist of this region to increase the exchange of ideas and research results and the willingness to cooperate for the new European Research Area (ERA).
To increase the quality of the Journal, after meeting the Editorial Board from Croatia and Hungary in January at Cluj-Napoca, we decided to have each article reviewed by two specialists. This is the first number that is subject to these new rules and we will do our best to contact and receive your papers from the national and international reviewers in time. A lot of articles are still pending for the reviewers’ observations and we hope that for the future issues we will have more articles ready. At the same time, through the Central Editorial Board in Zagreb, we have started to apply to International Statistic Institute for the ISI index to increase the international impact of the Journal and also the quality and number of the scientific papers. It was a special opportunity for us to face up with such a lively communication with people from so many countries, different languages and cultural backgrounds and we hope that the JCEA will remain an open forum for scientists and will enable them to cooperate.
