Volume 4 (2003) Number 4

The Annual Meeting of the International Editorial Board of the Journal of Central European Agriculture already became a habit. This year it was held on 8 -11 October, in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. Discussions focused the experiences of editing the journal in year 2003 and about future developments and possibilities of extending the cooperation of the member institutions. A decision was made that in the future stricter regulations will be applied for the reviewing process, this way increasing the scientific quality of JCEA.
The present issue contains 17 papers from 8 countries: Bulgaria, Germany, Romania, Turkey, Scotland, Italy, Slovenia and Slovak Republic.
This issue presents the research: genesis and classification of inceptisols formed on the slate parent material under forest vegetation; the background levels of heavy metals in the vertisols under mediterranean type of climate in the region of Turkey; the effect of rotational grazing on floristic composition and yield of Ranunculo repentis – Alopecuretum pratensis hilly grassland; the variation of triiodothyronine (t 3) level in milking cows exposed to direct solar radiation; yield and its components in field pea (Pisum arvense l.) lines; the evolution of the fitosanitary estate of the stored apples in natural conditions; monitoring of pesticide residues in agricultural products in the years 2001 and 2002; control of some phytopathogen agents by using special foliar fertilizers; the response of some apple varieties to powdery mildew (Podosphaera leucotricha) attack in central Transylvania conditions; The response of some apple varieties to apple scab (Venturia inaequalis) attack in central Transylvania conditions; a new microzone for seed potato production in Romania - Huedin area - in Cluj county; innovation transfer and rural SMEs; movement of cadmium and lead in anthropogenically formed trophic chains of a pasture type; the effect of ethephon, NAA, BA and their combinations on thinning intensity of 'Summerred' apples; evolution of the main blood indices in tsigai fattening sheep; influence of year and atonik application on variability of sugar beet root yield and digestion; quality of sugar beet root in relation to weather conditions and different atonik doses.
The Romanian Editorial board is now handing over the editorial tasks to the Czech National Editorial Board, as in year 2004 our colleagues in Èešké Budejovice will be taking over the responsibility for editing Volume 5 of JCEA. With the publication 17 papers in Number 4 we are proud to say that we managed to publish 4 issues this year, with altogether 53 papers, thus reaching the level of publication frequency we had originally aimed at when the Journal was launched.
We would like to thank all the national editorial boards and also our authors for their cooperation, and the technical staff in Zagreb for their efficient and professional work, which made our task easy and enjoyable all the time. We hope that our colleagues in Èešké Budejovice will find the editorial tasks as exciting and rewarding as we have experienced during the year, and will enjoy equally good communication with all of our partners.

The Romanian Editorial Board
